Children Group Homes

This was a results-oriented project for SOS ORGANIZATION. Commissioned by the organization the project was managed by Mr Karl Muller (SOS) and co-managed by Prof Johan Nieuwoudt (Department of Psychology: Unisa). The main objective of the project was to determine how SOS' provision of service to the children in its care compares with two other child care agancies - JAKARANDA and BRAMLEY CHILDREN'S HAVEN. The rationale behind this was mainly to explore the possibility of opening communication among these facilities which, as we believed, would potentially lead to them being complementary to each other. We, the MA students in Research Psychology at Unisa, were responsible for the entire research process, from data collection to report writing and dissemination of findings. The results of the study were officially presented to SOS management and Unisa Psychology department on the 21st of November 2001. Social workers were used as participants across the three children homes. Following semi-structured interviews with them, these social workers were each given 'Experience of Work and Life Cirumstances Qestionnaire' (WLQ) to complete. House-parents in the facilities were also requested to complete the same measure.
